Omaima was disappointed as she did not get good job in that areas. She had an MBA degree in marketing and several years’ experience in sales and marketing research.
Almas, the marketing director of Manal, called Omaima immediately when Shehroz showed him Omaima’s resume. Almas was excited at having someone with Omaima’s skills and experience in his company. He offered her to work as an independent contractor in various projects under his supervision. During these projects Omaima had several meetings and discussions with Almas. She found him very cooperative and understanding. She successfully completed all the projects as she always believed in herself and her ability to control the events and consequences of her actions. After six months he offered her a permanent position of Assistant Director in his department.
Omaima was very excited on getting that job as she liked the people in marketing department. Although she joined the company but she had some reservations regarding the salary (that was 20% below the market average) and job description (several areas of her job were not clear). She athered data to back up her requests for a higher salary and clearer job description. She did her homework and was eager to discuss it with Almas.
Her meeting with Almas was very disappointing. When Omaima tried to discuss about the salary he replied, “You seem to fit well with our department and we are happy to accommodate you and find a position for you. I think salary is fine”. Almas agreed on few minor things that Omaima wanted but he made no adjustments in job description and responsibilities. The more Omaima discussed changes the more Almas closed up and made small talk.
After meeting for nearly an hour, Omaima felt that all her preparations had been wasted. Although her job was attractive and she had no other alternative job option at that time, but her enthusiasm was gone. She was much discouraged from Almas’ sentence “we are happy to accommodate you”.
